Post-Secondary Disability Services - Goods & Services
For those students who are ineligible for student loan dollars but do meet the Post-Secondary Disability Services(PSDS) criteria of being a Nova Scotia resident and of a student with a permanent disability, PSDS may provide funding for your required goods and services.
Goods Access Program
This grant provides goods such as computers and assistive technology. The Goods Access Program [GAP] utilizes the same guidelines as those under the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Persons with Disabilities. Individuals need to fill out the same application form as the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Persons with Disabilities when applying for the Goods Access Program grant.
If you are a student at a private career college within Nova Scotia, or attending a post-secondary institution outside of Nova Scotia, you will need to contact Mr. Kevin Penny at Post-Secondary Disability Services. Services
Services can be available for students who are ineligible for student loan funding. Outlined below is the process a student needs to follow to acquire approval to receive funding for services such as tutoring and note taking.
If you are a student at a private career college within Nova Scotia, or attending a post-secondary institution outside of Nova Scotia, you will need to contact Mr. Kevin Penny at Post-Secondary Disability Services. 1. The first step is to meet with the Disability Resource Facilitator on your campus about your need for services. If you need the contact information for your campus disability services office it can be found here.
2. The Disability Resource Facilitator will assist you in filling out a Post-Secondary Disability Services request for services form. This form is sent to Post-Secondary Disability Services to receive approval for your requested service.
3. Post-Secondary Disability Services will notify the Disability Resource Facilitator on the status of your request for services.
4. Once your request for services is approved by Post-Secondary Disability Services, you can start receiving services.
5. You will need to meet with your service provider and Disability Resource Facilitator to complete the service invoice to receive payment for service.
6. These invoices are sent to Post-Secondary Disability Services main office in Halifax for payment processing. This process could take up to a couple of weeks for your service provider to be paid when taking into account time taken for invoices and cheques to travel through the mail system.
